The Farnborough Not Forgotten Club was founded in
the first half of the last century by George Hatto a local grocer in the North Camp
district.
George was aware of needy and deserving people - especially the elderly
living at home, and at Christmas time he would use his horse and cart
to deliver them gifts of groceries.
George died in 1958 and in his will he donated several small shops in
trust to the club. These were leased and the rental income was used by
the club to supplement the funds from an annual appeal which was made
in Farnborough to continue the good work that George had started.
The properties were subsequently sold during the 1990's and the
proceeds
passed to the club.
Since then the income from the invested proceeds has proved to be just
sufficient to cover the cost of the club's traditional outlay, mainly
in
respect of between 100 to 200 Christmas hampers annually, without
having to make an annual appeal. In recent years the club
has annually distributed Christmas hampers to
about 170 deserving people.
